Evolution or Creation?

Atheists gone wild!

Do you ever wonder how much influence atheism and evolutionism have had on America? According to pollsters, American attitudes about creation-or for that matter, God-have not changed, even though these secularistic messages have saturated every public school and university and almost every form of mass media for decades.

A Gallup Poll from June 2006 concerning what Americans believe revealed that atheists occupied the bottom position with only 3%, while at least 90% recognized God. A March 2008 poll showed that 79% of Americans identify themselves as Protestant, Catholic, or some other form of Christian-with 61 % indicating membership in a church or synagogue. The pollster concluded that, "the patterns have remained the same since the Gallup began asking these questions six decades ago" (since 1937). In short, America demonstrates a foundational, historical belief in a Creator that has been consistent through the years.

Also amazing is Americans' stubborn resiliency at not being duped by the dogmatic teaching of evolution. In June 2007, Gallup surveyed the nation on the controversial topic of "Evolution, Creationism, and Intelligent Design." An amazing 82% generally agreed that God created mankind, while only 14% believed we evolved from lower forms of life, apart from any divine action. Over the 26 years of asking these basic three questions, the results have hardly changed.

The idea that God created man within the last 10,000 years has consistently remained the preferred position at 43-44 %. Those believing in theistic evolution (that God had a part in or directed the evolution process) come in a close second at 38%, with 9-14 % steadily favoring atheistic evolution.

These results indicate that the colossal effort to establish evolution as a "fact" in our nation over the last 40-50 years has generally failed to alter public opinion. Surveys also consistently show that most Americans want a more open approach to the teaching of science and origins in our educational system.

A Harris Poll from June 2005 asked people: "Regardless what you believe in, which do think should be taught in schools?" Fifty-five percent chose "all," including Intelligent Design (creation) and evolution. In the same survey, 23% wanted creation taught exclusively, while only 12% sought the same for evolution. These polls dramatically reveal that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe in creationism and want their children to have a more open, less dogmatic education. After all, this nation was founded on Christian principles and belief in a Creator!

Despite these facts, Americans are not getting what they want – or what they are paying for. Using a false interpretation of "separation of church and state," atheists and evolutionists have fought aggressively to keep any mention of a Creator or Intelligent Designer out of our nation's schools. Instead of the 90% who believe in God, our educational system is controlled by the 3% of hard-core evolutionist/atheists who abhor any mention of a divinity. As a result, there has been an exodus from the public schools to private, parochial, or home school education.
